# The Review Bench — Extended profile > Independent product-review publication. Long-term testing of consumer technology across ten categories. Editorial work by named reviewers, with disclosed bylines and beats. No affiliate compensation. No sponsorship. No retained review units. The Review Bench is published from https://thereviewbench.com. The publication is structured as a small editorial team led by Editor-in-Chief Eleanor Rhys, with seven beat reviewers. ## Editorial independence — full statement The Review Bench accepts no affiliate compensation. We do not run affiliate links on this site, in our newsletter, or in our RSS feed. None of the outbound links on this site pay us a commission when clicked or when a purchase is made. We do not use Amazon Associates, Skimlinks, Awin, Impact, ShareASale, or any other affiliate-marketing platform. We do not run cloaked outbound links or redirect domains. The Review Bench accepts no sponsorship from manufacturers or retailers. Manufacturers do not pay to be reviewed, do not pay to influence reviews, do not buy advertising on this site, and do not sponsor our newsletter. The publication is funded by direct reader subscriptions and by the editor-in-chief. Reviewers do not retain review units. For products we review, one of two things is true: a member of our team purchased the product at retail with The Review Bench's funds, or a vendor sent the product as a sample, in which case the product is returned to the vendor at the end of the testing window (or, where return is not practical, donated, sold, or destroyed). Each review carries an explicit disclosure of which path applies. Reviewers disclose any prior relationship with vendors. Where a reviewer has previously worked for, consulted with, or held equity in a vendor whose product they are reviewing, the review carries a disclosure at the top. Where a reviewer is personally acquainted with someone at the vendor, the review carries a disclosure of the relationship. Where the relationship is recent or financially material, the review is reassigned. Editorial decisions are independent of any commercial relationship. There is no executive layer above the editor. There is no advertising department. When we make a factual mistake, we issue a correction. The correction is added inline, with a dated note at the bottom of the review. When the correction materially changes our recommendation or score, we say so at the top of the review with the heading "Correction notice." We do not silently revise reviews. ## Testing methodology Our minimum testing window is four weeks of regular daily use before publication. For products meant to live in a home or on a person — soundbars, mesh routers, doorbells, password managers, watches, headphones — we re-test at three months and at twelve months and update the review. For comparison reviews, each product runs the same workload for the same duration, on the same network, in the same room, with the same controls. We pre-register comparison test plans before running them. Audio measurements use a calibrated MiniDSP EARS rig for headphones and a UMIK-1 plus REW for soundbars. Network measurements use iPerf3 between a wired Linux machine and clients across multiple Wi-Fi standards (Wi-Fi 6, 6E, 7), with wired-to-wired tests against an Aruba Instant On switch as a control. Battery measurements use Otii Arc for low-current devices and shunt-resistor logging for higher draws. We score on a continuous 0-10 scale with one decimal of precision: - 9.0 and above: exceptional, defines a category. Almost no products live here. - 8.0-8.9: strong recommendation. Editor's Picks are awarded here. - 7.0-7.9: good. Worth buying for the right person. - 6.0-6.9: okay. Better options usually exist. - 5.0-5.9: mediocre. Buy only with specific reason. - Below 5.0: avoid. We do not award a 10. No product we have tested is perfect. ## The reviewers ### Eleanor Rhys — Editor-in-Chief, cross-category Eleanor Rhys leads the editorial direction of The Review Bench. You will not find "best of" articles whose ranking depends on affiliate-conversion rate. You will not find sponsored content presented as editorial, and you will not find disclosure language that buries the commercial relationship. You will not find a one-week review of a product whose long-term reliability is the actual question. You will not find a review whose conclusion has been edited after the fact to match a commercial relationship. What you will find is a small number of reviews, written by named reviewers, of products tested for at least four weeks, with their pros and cons stated honestly, their commercial context disclosed, and their scoring anchored to a published scale.
